Great trip report. I paddled that same area that same week in 2017 and 2018. I think it's the perfect time of the year to paddle.

Nice report. Love that area! We will be heading that way this summer for our father/son 25th consecutive annual trip. Plan on base camping on Gaskin and lots of fishing on nearby lakes.

Thank you for the interesting trip report! It's so much more interesting when your thoughts and feelings are included, rather than just a chronological list of events.

I have stayed on site #674 on two different solo trips, and I LOVE that site. The portage into Vista was for me, exactly as you described. In fact, I thought I had missed the real portage. Those boulders are ankle breakers.

Good luck on your future solos!

Thanks! I love paddling in the fall after the busyness of Labor Day has passed. It’s my favorite time of year to camp.
