quote Zulu: "You should e-mail or call Jim at The Great Outdoors Bait store in Ely. He knows the conditions on Burntside Lake better than anyone. There are vehicles driving on the lake but he will know what areas you should avoid because of thin ice or slush.

Good luck on your trip. "

TGO has been on the lake recently. Beautiful lake with many Islands.

Have any winter adventurers attempted crossing Burntside this year? I am hoping to hike across next week, but I won't attempt it if the ice is too thin. I heard that a few weeks back there were 17" of ice, but I am somewhat concerned about slush beneath the snow. Would it be safer to stick to established ice roads?

I appreciate any wisdom or local information that can be shared.
