Hello, going up(or down, then up) the falls chain may 23rd-29th. Can anyone report on the laker fishing in kawnipi? I've heard so much about the walleye fishing, but not much about the trout. How about Lemay for trout? Thanks in advance, pete

Hi,
I am also interested in laker options (day trips too) from Kawnipi. We are going in the first week of June. We had planned to bushwack into Lemay as well, but I didn't think that there were trout in there. I thought it was more of a smallie/walleye lake. You could always day trip it back over to McEwen for some lakers.

The book "Quetico Fishes" lists Kawnipi has containing lake trout, but I have never caught them there, nor have I ever heard of anyone else doing so. Kawnipi is walleye and pike water of exceptional quality.

Thanks for the insight arctic.
I hadn't really planned on trying to target lakers in Kawnipi. Especially since the pike and walleye fishing should be outstanding there! In a week long trip though, I will probably try to day trip to a couple of the nearby lakes. Anybody have a list of the nearby lakes that contain lakers? Some of those small lakes between Kawnipi and Agnes must contain trout, right?
Sorry to sort of hijack your thread Pete.

Never caught any lakers on Kawnipi either, but I have heard they may exist in the deep channel just west of Rose Island.
McEwen, Agnes, or Ferguson may be your best bet in the area. Don't forgot to troll along when you cross Cache Bay / Saganaga. Good lakers there.

McKenzie and Keewatin have trout. Rumor has it the trout area on Kawnipi is in the big basin to the east of Rose and Kasie islands. I do not know if this is true- I've heard talk but never confirmation.

Peteb, The QueticoFishing.com LINK table shows Trout for Kawnipi, for what it's worth (take with a "grain of salt?"). You can also look up other lakes in that area for side trips.
