I've decided to go May 24 but I'm unsure of camping conditions. Anyone been there since? Do I need to get a bear proof container? Any camp sites with trees to hang food? Best campsites?

TL-

Don't let the fire damage stop you from this trip. It is really very interesting. Many of the campsites were not damaged by the fire. Nearby Jasper has some sites that were really wiped out. Others were untouched. Go to the map section here, many of the campsites were reviewed since the fire.

Some sites were not hit bad , some were. I think a barrel is the best way to go. Makes things easier. But there are no fish left. Gbusk caught the last one !

Plenty of nice camps on Alpine still.

And a good portion of Red Rock was not even touched by the fire.

My very 1st trip to BWCA was 15 yrs ago/I was 42!! Damn-never had a willing body, afraid to go alone-- It was Seagull!! So BEAUTIFUL! Close encounter with a Fischer(I'll never forget)! Now I know it is damaged. I went to Sag., 3 yrs ago and saw the burn/re-growth there along the way. Tell me best site!

TLAC5748,
where are you entering? I am thinking about a May22 entry at EP52 (Bryant) and am planning on making my way toward Red Rock for the first time.

I was on Red Rock a couple of years ago and had a close encounter with a couple of moose at the Northwestern-most site near the portaqe to Saganaga. THe site was great, and it was situated right next to a shallow lagoon. The Moose walked right through our camp and ate in that lagoon for a couple of hours one morning. At times they weren't more than 30 ft away. Its a great site and worth seeking out on its own merits. THrow in the off chance of seeing a couple of moose up close and I'd go back in a second.

Permit is for Sag. I plan on being towed to the north end of Red Rock (my daughter won't paddle for more than a few hours). I'd rather paddle than pay $$.

Yeah but, Kiporby, the whatever is in the details - any details - what sites are still in ok shape?
YaMarVa, the bass spawn where there isn't really a portage from Seagull to Alpine, if you're there @ that time and use the right lure - dinner!
