If anyone can give me some suggestions for bait and location of fish on ensign lake and surrounding lakes it would be great. we will be fishing mainly for pike and walleye.

Todd, I asked the same question in Feb. see the attached link. Also check the map section of this site, it is marked with the spots that people have caught fish. I'm going to Ensign in three days. I will leave you some small ones in the lake, haha

Check my comments and pictures on the "View Boundary Waters Map Location" part of the site, on the northwest side of the lake. I've caught 18 lb pike, 4 lb smallie, 3 lb largemouth, small walleye. Island campsite 1276 is very nice, and large enough for a large group. I've also had real good success on Splash.

Todd, I just got back from Ensign today and we caught a lot of Walleye. Most were caught on jigs or hooks and chub minnows on slip bobbers. You could e-mail me and I could give you the locations of the hot spots.
