I have been drifting through this messageboard for sometime now. I have never read much of anything on lures made at home (besides fly fishing). I am pretty new to the bw/fishing game but does anyone do this? I am pretty big on trying to make things on my own. I feel like making a Mepps type lure would not be all that difficult. I could be wrong....

Any info on websites or ideas? Or is the time and effort just to great?

I make crank baits, topwater baits, tie my own flies. It add something to the fishing experience.
Anthony. Here is one I took last year, not one of my better efforts, but the ony one I have a picture of. I will post more at a later date

Go to any tackle component web site, such as Hagen's. They have all the supplies necessary to make a Mepps style spinner.

Check out this trip report

He carved out a lure in camp & actually caught fish with it! Pretty cool.

We use homemade spinner rigs probably 75% of the time. Haven't found anything that works any better for walleyes.

Snake charmer I'd like to see a pic of one. Also I get this catalog for making my own lures. Jannsnetcraft.com check it out if you are into that.

I once saw an episode of MgGyver when he used a shiny trident rapper to catch a trout in a canal...maybe try that.

Does folding a beer bottlecap around a jighead count???

Here's a few. I've given most of these away as gifts so I can't attest to how well they catch fish.

Very nice JD. Another reason for me to "fully" retire. Lure making.....YES!

JD they look like old lures burried in my grandfathers old tackle box. I find those old goodies to be scarred deep with bite marks. Nice job.

Thanks guys. The 'aging' process was due to painting mishaps more than because I meant to do it. FYI - I bought the lure kits from a website called Penn State Industries. They are primarily a wooden pen supply house which I also make.

I make a lot of my own lures. There are many places you can get parts and blanks to create your own lures. I buy stuff from lurepartsonline (used to be Stamina) and Moore's lures most of the time. But there are a lot of places to get the stuff. Google lure making, homemade baits, or any other type of phrase like this and explore.
