I'm heading into the Pietro Lake area in June with some 11yr olds. This is a new area for me and I'm looking for any fishing info on the lakes. I see Pietro is outstanding from old post but how about Turtle, Clearwater and Gull. I love catching pike but looking for bass and walleye info. Thanks in advance.

This is what I know so far, hoping to get there and do more personal research in July :)

Pietro, very clear water, has pike (and I thought I read someone else catching walleyes there but not positive)

Turtle, the water is not clear, has pike (personally verified last summer). East and NE sides were burned by a fire some years ago.

Clearwater, I've read numerous posts about people not catching anything there.

Gull, supposed to be a good walleye lake, also has pike, smallmouth and perch.

You also know that the top parts of these lakes were hit by the Pagami Creek fire at the end of last year I assume?

No I didnt realize last years fire was in this area. I thought it was farther NE. I guess I better check with the outfitter further to see exactly what was affected. I knew they had the fire back in '06 or '07. Thanks for info.

I was planning on going to Pietro in Sept but not now. The NE side of Gull was burnt
as well as the NE side of Pietro. I believe 2 of the campsites on Gull is closed. Someone posted some great pics of the fire damage on the portage between Gull and Pietro. One of my concerns was with the water quality with all the runoff from the ash.

Were the pictures of the portage here on bwca.com? Do you have the thread that you can link here? I'd love to see them.

Those were the pics I saw. Unbelievable how devastating the fire was.

Thank you for the heads up. After seeing the photos, I did a lot more checking and found maps from the forestry service showing the burn area. It covers the area we planned on going. That would of been a real suprise as we entered Gull. I guess were headed north out of Ely again.

Same thing for me. I plan on hitting Pietro in 2 or3 years. Let some regeneration work.
Have a good trip.
