Earlier this spring I decided to make a pack for this summer's trip. I made a couple of prototypes that worked well so I wrote up some instructions as I made "the real one".
I shared the instructions and materials with three others there were going on the trip. They were all able to make the pack with minimal or no previous sewing experience. Now that the packs have been field tested for a week, I have put the instructions online and make them available for anyone to use.
Visit troop47.com and choose "Miscellanuous T47 Files" from the menu at the left. This will take you to a google drive folder with "Portage Pack Instructions.pdf"
Enjoy!

This is perfect. I'm going to follow this as I start gearing up my son's Troop for a canoe trip next summer.
One suggestion - nowhere in your materials do you mention needing to have closed cell foam until you get to assembling the shoulder straps. perhaps that should be added?

quote SaganagaJoe: "This is a great set of instructions. Say I wanted to do a #4, what dimensions would I want for the pack then?
"
Id suggest you do what I did for this one - find a pack you like online and use those dimensions. The instructions give enough info to adjust for the new dimensions but feel free to post here if you need help.
