The weather in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness can change quickly. Travelers need to be prepared for both warm and cold weather while visiting the Boundary Waters. Boat travel typically starts in May and ends in the beginning of October. Winter travel in and around the BWCA is done by snowshoes, x-country skis, and dog sled.
