I use a dremel tool to grind off the barbs. Works great.

I used to just pinch them down with a pliers. Works just fine, too, and if you're careful, you won't dull the hook point. However, I found that pinching them down removed enough of the barb angle to allow for easy entry into my hand but NOT for easy removal. Just my .02.

Just don't get close to the hook point when you pinch barbs, then there is no possible way that they could be dulled. ALWAYS works for us.

Here's some I would recommend.

quote kensofe: "Hey Pete- Thanks. I was thinking you and I should talk, maybe, and let me pick your brain on this area- I believe you have been here before? "
Ken, drop me an email and we'll connect. Not sure what I can help you with, but I've been through some of your planned route.

Dick's sells them on line. Just do a Google search of barbless hooks.

Every new hook (barbed) I have ever bought needed a touch up with a sharpener. I would expect the same is true of barbless hooks.

Just pinch 'em down, Ken... then worry not. They'll be just fine.

I found them once at a baitshop near Brainerd, cost about twice as much as barbed hooks, he had them marked way down as no one was willing to pay the price, when all you have to do is pinch them. Get a good hook sharpener and you can have razor sharp pinched hooks in seconds.

My experience has been pinching them down can dull them- no question new barbless hooks are sharper. I used to see barbless treble and single hooks on BWJ trading posts but not any more. I definitely want to buy some and replace, just can't seem to find the ones I need

Curious as to why you say that pinching barbs can dulls hooks?

My experience has been that round bend treble hooks are the most likely culprit when it comes to losing fish. Many of my barbless hook catches are lost at boat side while I'm trying to get a Boga on them. Many walleye have evaded capture with a bit of slack and a quick thrash (using the length and weight of the lure as leverage).

The unintended consequence of the law is it promotes the usage of nets which is far more likely to have a detrimental impact on the resource than hooks IMHO.

Another option, and one that I am gravitating to, is the use of single barbless hooks on lures (see thread in fishing forum) which will have a deeper "bite" with less chance of the "Professional Release".

I am prepping for a 9 day mid September Q trip through the Man Chain, Falls Chain, and loop back to PP. My partner and I are heavy fishing fanatics and fishing is a huge emphasis for us. I am looking to replace hooks before I depart with barbless hooks- I will pinch some down but I really want to replace some hooks with new, sharp as hell, hooks. Pinching them down dulls them sometimes......so, I cannot seem to find barbless hooks anywhere. I looked at Cabelas, BassPro and did internet searches but all yielded very limited choices. Anyone have any idea where I may be able to find these?
