I have a Northstar Northwind Solo and would really like to use it. I have secured a rental Northwind Solo for my son. This is one of those situations where if you have to ask the question, you already know the answer. If you already think he may be in over his head in a windy situation, then he is better off with you in a tandem. You don't give us a date for the trip. Is there time before the trip for him to get a paddling class in? I know you want to get that solo wet in the wilderness. Don't let that goal override your better judgement on his paddling skills. |

05/13/2018 09:52PM You know yourself and your son far better than we do. I don’t think you need an opinion poll. Use your experience and make the call. Another option? Is there someone your son can invite to be his partner in a tandem? |

05/13/2018 04:59PM I am planning a trip out of EP 62 for mid June with my 20 yo son. I have been thinking of the Clearwater short loop. I have a Northstar Northwind Solo and would really like to use it. I have secured a rental Northwind Solo for my son. My concern is Pike Lake and wind. I am a stronger paddler than my son and feel apprehensive that I'd get him into a spot he'd have trouble paddling out. Am I right to be concerned? Should I change the rental to a tandem? Thanks for any advice. |
