I’ll be up there the last week of September. We’re hoping to see some fall color and hit some good walleye fishing. I have a BWCA.com sticker on my MN II. 6 of us with a golden retriever. Say hi if you see us.

most of the reports i've seen on bear sightings on knife seem to be more on the western side and i have done 12+ trips in the eddy falls area and have never seen a bear.
but yes early september should not be a problem finding a campsite on knife .

I was on knife the 3rd week of September last year, pretty quite, there were a few others up there, but we never seen anyone in the evenings. I did not see any bears, one really bad storm, but other than that its awesome weather, not a single mosquito. A friend that was with us who knew Pete took us to his island and we looked around at the remnants of his camp, crazy how he lived up there for so long.

I did that route during that time frame two years ago.......No crowds.....First night on SAK, a bear cub charged into camp and tried to steal my dinner plate......I tried to shoo him off and he ran up a tree in the middle of our camp and started crying....we retreated to the lake out of fear that mama might show up.....he left about 20 minutes later...mom was a no show thankfully......we moved camp the next day further down the lake and had no more problems on SAK. We did do a day trip over to Kek two days later and while trying to land on the peninsula campsite to fix lunch saw a mama bear and two cubs come strolling into the campsite and for the next twenty minutes, watch mom teach the cubs on where to look for food....they started at the fire grate and then moved to the big tree in the center of camp, presumably where everyone hangs their food bags.....other than that, we had a great time and enjoyed good fishing!

Is this area still pretty busy the last week of Sept.? Are the lakes NE of Knife worth visiting for LT? Are the bear issues just as bad in the Fall?
Thinking of this area for a leisurely trip after the Ely marathon.
