07/22/2018 11:19PM S. Temperance is quite pretty. Nice campsites. 2.5-3 hour paddle. I wouldn't expect the sites to be full... But it's always possible. If so, head up to North Temperance. |

07/22/2018 10:46PM I was also thinking about going to S Temperance as an option from Brule. Do you know usually how long is the paddle from Brule Entry point to S Temperance? Also are the campsites there more popular? It would be a bummer to turn back to Brule due to the lack of unoccupied campsites. |

07/17/2018 03:04PM If you're heading up 61 then Sawtooth is very convenient for pick up and drop off. I've rented a canoe from them before when entering at Brule and it worked out well. |

07/17/2018 02:47PM I’ve never camped on Brule, so I can’t help you there. Sawbill Outfitters on Sawbill Lake is closer in distance to Brule Lake, but both Sawtooth and Sawbill are about an hour away in drive time. Either would work. |

07/17/2018 01:57PM Thanks for all the info, I will definitely bring warmer clothes for the temperature swings. Initially was thinking of leaving some of the warmer clothes behind to save weight. Bummer that the fishes will be in deeper water but I have a fishin Buddy canoe fish finder and hopefully that will help. Do you guys have any suggestions for a nicer campsite in the area? I am more interested in the N, NE area since we will be having a few new timers I don't want them to face the wrath of Brule's white caps if the winds start picking up :D. As far as outfitting Sawtooth would be closest going there? Went to Perent last year and got my things from there. |

07/17/2018 08:46AM I would expect to see a lot of people and likely not getting your first choice of campsites. Lots of folks do weekend basecamp trips on Brule. I've taken several August trips entering on or around Brule. In general mosquitoes are usually less prevalent, temps have larger swings so make sure to plan for some cool temps, weather is generally more dry, and the fish have moved deeper. |

07/17/2018 07:29AM The end of August tends to be drier than the end of May, but it can have greater temperature swings. It is also warmer in general. You will usually see more people than in May also because of the better weather and warmer water temperatures. |

07/16/2018 05:49PM Hey, everyone, I am planning a trip for Brule Lake for the last weekend of August. This will be the first time I am going to the Boundary Waters in August. For the last 4 years, it has been always during Memorial Weekend and almost always Rain and Thunderstorm. We are planning to basecamp in Brule and was wondering what everyone's take on the end of August? How is the weather, is it more stable or is it similar to the end of May where thunderstorms are more frequent? In terms of traffic will we be expecting to see a lot of people around that time or will it be a little less since it's right before Labor Day Weekend? |
