07/24/2018 07:34PM The black flies can be an issue if it's a long and warmer spring, but generally not in May. The biggest issue is the weather. We've sun and 80's to 28 degrees and snow, all on the same trip. Be prepared for anything, but the bite can be spectacular. |

07/24/2018 01:26PMjdogg9745: "Would any of you reccomend May, June or August instead of July?" Please don’t take this the wrong way, but just go. It’s the wilderness. |

07/24/2018 11:45AM Fishing is the primary goal when we've gone in July we've always done really well fishing. I was wanting to go in May because of the cooler temperatures but was concerned about the black flies during that timeframe. |

07/24/2018 11:42AM It all depends on what your primary goal is. If you want great fishing, I've had my best success in mid to late May. The weather is a total crapshoot, but there are no bugs and nowhere near as many people. If you want to swim, sightsee and just hang out, then July or August are probably your best months, though the crowds definitely increase. |

07/24/2018 11:02AM May is a great month to go but a lot depends on when you go as there is not a lot of flora at the beginning of the month. However you can run into the latest hatch of mosquitoes, ticks, gnats or May flies. That hasn't stopped me from going in May. August has stable temperatures and less bugs so it is a good month to go. I've run into very warm temperatures on occasion so be prepared. I'm sure the fishermen on this site will pipe into when is best fishing. |

07/24/2018 10:41AM I am available to go to the BWCA late May through Early August 2019. I have only ever been in July and it is great except for the mosquitoes. Would any of you reccomend May, June or August instead of July? |
