They don't put them out.

I don't know why they wouldn't have put out the Blueberry Is. fire unless they don't have the people/equipment.

cowdoc: "Anyone have an exact location?" This interactive fire map is very helpful. You can locate the fires here and see size estimates based on the most recent recon info. The Russell Lake fire started near the portage at NE end of lake in late July. Blueberry Is. started smoldering about 10 days ago.

Thank you so much for the recent info. We were planning to head that way mid September, and the recent info is helpful in deciding what to do

I see in another post someone said that Blueberry Island on Sturgeon Lake was on fire. I was talking with the office the other day and see where we were going up on Quetico lake the fire has grown too.

Just a heads up if anyone is heading into the Poet Chain, parts of Sturgeon Lake, anywhere in the vicinity of Russell Lake, that fire has grown quite a bit with today's NW winds. As of earlier today it was estimated at 100 acres. My husband is a couple lakes away tonight and reports it is crowning and releasing big fireballs and a huge smoke cloud. (He plans to leave early tomorrow a.m. and increase that distance significantly.) It would be wise to have a Plan B and Plan C if you are headed near those areas.
