anthonyp007: "Lots of people poo poo the old unmarked portage from Slim to Fat but it really wasn’t that difficult. Locating it and the first steep climb up out of Slim were the hardest parts. I’m sure you’ve researched it, but the portage starts just south of the little creek on the east side of Slim. There were some deadfalls in the water that made it hard to see and land the canoe. The view on the Fat side is glorious and the campsite on Fat was choice. I landed a heritage Lake Trout within my first 30 minutes fishing there. What a thrill. I can’t wait to go back there. I had that whole area to myself on a 5 day solo in July of 2017. Have fun! Can’t wait to hear about your trip!

Thanks Tony - I am looking forward to your report for the John Elk trip - that sounds like fun. I've read your reports going through Stuart, and I tried that last fall, but it took me 10 hours to get from Stuart and on the way in it got dark on me, adding 2 1/2 hours to the 10. I was shot, Wish I was young and could do a trip like you are planning, but am learning to slow it down! I think you solo to fat and the video is why I became interested in that lake.

30Smoke: "I would like to thank all for their replies. Devils cascade definitely, slim to fat and catch a heritage trout. Lady boot is quite a ways off. But maybe, depending on the fishing. I have read all the trip reports in that area, including vno. Maybe trigg for the brook trout. Looking forward to the trip"

Visited Devil's Cascade during my border route trip in May 2018. I was very impressed and recommend this stop to ALL!

I think VNO did and article about a trip to Tak a couple of years ago, maybe check with them.
A few things:
There's an unmaintained portage from Slim to Fat. Lake trout in Fat.
Oyster has some sites with beach areas. Also areas of beach around the lake.
Don't forget the pictographs on LLC.
Lady Boot Bay on LLC is nice.

I have a report posted from a couple years ago, only time we've entered at LIS.

We got an early start the morning we started, made it thru Loon, over Beatty portage and into Snow Bay of LLC by early afternoon single portaging. On the way back Slim was really cool. Loon we stayed on, I'll never do that again. Boats were annoying. Just passing thru wasn't bad

I am planning a trip with my cousing up LIS to Loon, Fat, Gun, Takucmich. Looking for help on anything interesting like sites / overlooks - etc to see on the trip. I like to balance the fishing side with cultural events, like climbing the hill to the top of the world by nina moose or sitting in the chairs on Gebe-on-equet! Appreciate any insight. Also if anyone has fishing information on those smaller lakes, would be appreciated. I've got two trip reports posted from last year, and two more in process - trying to keep a record of my adventures for future reference. Thanks
We have stopped planning at Takucmich - will play out as it goes. options are to stay on Tak, go up LLC and down the west side or go up LLC and down the East side through the inside passage and fish stake narrows going out Agnes and EP 16.
