Personally I would take advantage of the holiday. I would just have it in my plan that the first day will be a long one in order to find a campsite. Also I would definitely get an very early start.

If you wait a couple of days, will you lose BW time? If not, go in on on the Tuesday. Otherwise go for it and plan to stop a lot earlier than what is considered normal. For me, normal is considered around 2:00 to begin serious searching for a camp site.

Thats what I was afraid of in regards to people. I may push it back a half week or week.. My paddle partner doesn't have the experience that I do so I like to leave lots of leeway for daily adjustments..
Thank you for the feedback..

Last year I went in at Mudro the week before Labor day. My thought process was most would hold off one extra week to stretch that holiday like you are suggesting. The entry point was full of cars and I seen all the permit holders for our day as we launched but all except two of us went thru towards Fourtown. The other party stopped on Horse and we continued to LBF on day one. There was one party camped next to the falls. We took the next one to the north and while we saw a few canoes that were passing by and I believe they were the ones camped south of us. We went up to Wednesday bay the next day after spending some time around LBF and we camped there 2 nights. Saw 2 canoes go by. We did not see another canoe until we got between Thursday bay and Friday bay and that was a boyscout troop that launched with us the prior sunday and were going clockwise on the loop while we were going counter.

It wasn't until we got south of Friday bay when we "found" all the people.

The Labor Day holiday can be pretty busy , especially in vicinity of a popular entry point like Mudro. I think I would wait a couple days.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm planning an early Sept trip and to maximize vacation time to stay out longer. Whats the general consensus on starting out somewhere on labor day weekend? Or is it worth holding off and putting in the Tuesday after?

I'm thinking of Mudro to Basswood Falls area with about 4 to 6 nights depending on how I can schedule it. Never been to the area at this time so not really sure what to expect for usage..

Thank you for any insight you can offer...
