No maximum length at all to the permit (See Dave & Amy Freeman's Year in the Wilderness), but there is a maximum of 14 consecutive nights on a single campsite. Exit dates and exit points are totally changeable, even after you have your permit and have entered the wilderness. But I think outfitters like to know when their equipment is coming back, and the USFS likes to estimate numbers of folks in different areas at any given time. And, if you are having so much fun that you decide to spend another week, some folks back home may worry a bit if you don't let them know... :-)

Good luck with the permit reservation redux, whenever that may be.

Exit dates are not set in stone. You can go longer or shorter without notifying anyone.

No one has entry permits right now due to the reservation system problems on the 30th. Your outfitter will have to re-reserve it for you. I believe there is no limit to the length of the permit (could be wrong but it would be something large like 30 days) but check with the outfitter. Since they have to reserve a permit again for you when reservations open again (no timeframe on that yet), you can give them the new exit date and not have to worry about it.

We have an entry permit for Lake One for May 21. The outfitter got it for us. I told him we would exit the BWCA on 5/25. My kid just told me he had some extra days off so we could stay until 5/27.

Does the permit cover only the entry date or does it cover entry and exit dates? Figure someone on this site would know. Thanks.
