04/26/2019 10:35AM Water levels on 6/13 are beyond the reach of all but the most extreme (like no snow) winter conditions. The flow from breakup and melt will be well on the way to Hudson Bay. The levels you experience will be most affected by the weather immediately prior and during your trip. |

04/25/2019 11:29PM No worries at all for you....Water might be a bit high, but it'll be soft, campsites will be open, sunsets will be free, bugs will be bad, the fish will bite, and your trip will be good. |

04/25/2019 11:55AM You're right, I would definitely not not go :) I always feel like it's worth asking about local conditions though. Probably more true in ocean and estuary situations, where currents and tides can affect the deal. Definitely looking forward to it! Considering doing workouts where I carry the boat up and down my steep driveway, as preparation for portaging. THAT is going to suck :) |

04/23/2019 09:16PM After a really nice rain rainy winter, a lot of my normal springtime stream fishing is delayed by high turbid water. Summer backpacking will also start later due to really solid snowpack that will take a while to run off. On the good news side, I've seen my best early spring striper fishing in the Sacramento/San Joaquin delta in 15 years. Today someone asked me, "do you think your Canada trip will be affected?" and I kind of laughed. I'm arriving 6/13 and taking a ten day trip around Quetico lake. But wait -- what the heck do I know? Maybe it *will* be affected! How *are* the water levels looking, and/or is there anything else that looks likely to affect the normal rhythms of the fishing season out there? Maybe it's not the smartest question, but stuff happens. El Niño happens in Baja, an exceptionally windy spring happens on the gulf coast, and heavy runoff happens out here. Hopefully, just some really good early summer fishing will happen in Quetico :) |
