Keep driving past... and stop at Rustic Inn. (re-opened now after a recent kitchen fire) Rustic Inn's pies outstrip Betty's (made in Minneapolis) pies 1,000%. |

Off Topic: My girlfriend is from Arizona and I introduced her to Betty's Pies on her first trip to Minnesota. Now she wants to stop anytime we're nearby. Last time Betty's was closed so we stopped at Judy's. The food was okay, but the service was meh, and my girlfriend was not impressed. Since then she now refers to Judy's as "Fake Betty's Pies." |

08/16/2019 12:03AM +1 On the motel rooms. Have stayed in two of the three and will be again in a few weeks again. Basic, comfortable and clean. Pay phone in the restaurant so bring a calling card, don't believe you will get cell service. |

08/15/2019 10:31AM We stayed one night in the two bedroom hotel room earlier this summer at the end of our trip. We loved it! It was perfect place to stay after we paddled out. Plenty of space for us - we were a group of three. Clean. Comfortable. There are two separate bedrooms, bathroom, small sitting area and a mini fridge & coffee maker. And just a short walk across the trail for food. It's a nice option for a one night stay in the area that gave us slightly more comfort than a bunkhouse or one more night of camping. |

I usually stay at the Alpine Hotel/motel in Grand Marais, but the last time it was around $160 a night with taxes, and I was not fond of the burger choices in Grand Marais. My Sister's used to be very good - Not so much the last few times. Plus, they close early after Labor Day. Speaking of restaurants, one of my "always" stops is in Two Harbors - Judy's Cafe. Used to be a bit better than now, but still good. Tomster |

08/14/2019 07:29PM I have stayed in both the cabins, and the motel room. They are both excellent!! Very woodsy themed, clean, and quiet. There is no live television, but they do have a TV and a VCR , and a good selection of movies in the motel rooms. I honestly can’t remember if the cabins offer the same thing. Neither have air conditioning, but I doubt if you would ever need it. If interested it would be a good idea to make reservations as far in advance as possible. Both cabins and hotel are very busy. Probably my favorite place to stay along the trail. Love the central location. |
