Yes, I was referring to Picket Creek, the put in. I love small rivers and large creeks, was one of the highlights of the trip.

I think the creek in this instance is Picket Creek which is the real put-in for the entry point.

Depending on when you want to go, don't be surprised if the put in at the bridge is too shallow and you need to hike to one of the put-ins a little further down the stream. Unless you're super early in the season, there'll likely be a path.

Banksiana: "Creek is not difficult to navigate with long canoe. Routinely do it with MNII- never thought about it as an issue. Water levels can be problematic when low- but that's a matter of draft rather than length." The Creek meaning the Horse River? For sure water levels can be an issue, I agree it can be done with any canoe. I often hear people say you shouldn't use this or that canoe . Too much depends on paddle technique. Hog Creek comes to mind. My 10 year old and I did Hog Creek many years ago in A Wenonah Jensen 18. Basically a no rocker citizen racing canoe. I taught him how to do a bow draw and cross wedge. We cruised right through Hog Creek with no issues.

It will be sold out for sure but in all reality everyone is fighting to be first out and they all show up at the same time.

I doesn't take long for 5 groups to take off.
Take your time and don't start your trip off in a panicked rush to be the first.

That is not what this place is about.

We waited until everyone left and we paddled all the way past the falls and grabbed a campsite on the Basswood River north of the falls.

I want to go back to Crooked Lake in 2020 but I'm looking for a different route to get there to mix things up a bit.

Depending on when you go. Once you get past busy Horse Lake, It's an awesome trip to Crooked Lake. I love Crooked just past Lower Basswood Falls.

Maybe you were referring to entry point 22 which is only 2 per day and no camping on Horse lake?
MidwestFirecraft 12/10/2019 08:16AM
6 permits per day. Very busy entry point, but large parking lot. I went for the first time in October in a 15.5 foot Morningstar, would not have wanted to negotiate that creek in my 18.5 Northwind!

Tell me about this entry point. How many permits are issued per day, per week? I've wanted to do a Crooked trip for a while but always recall Mudro being a pain in the butt EP to get into. I always buy my permits the first day you can so that's never a problem, I just always recall they only have like two permits on three days a week kinda thing.
