BWCAgoer: "Thanks all for the suggestions!

I was recommended another trip across the border entering at Lerome Lake and basecamping on Soho or Kasakokwog. It seems that non-residents are not able to park at Lerome lake. Does anyone know of a work around for this? Haven’t been able to find anything. Thanks!"

We did that entry in 1989+/-. Had Canoe Canada Outfitters drop us of and we exited at Nym. I remember one section we had to line the canoe in a creek. I'll look for maps for more information.

Frenchy19: "You could enter at Prairie Portage and basecamp/fish on Carp. One portage will get you to Carp, and it is flat and short. Wallies, northern and smallies on Carp, not sure about Lakers. From Carp you could day trip to That Man (2 portages), and there you will find wallies, smallies, northern and lakers.

Another option would be to get to Kawnipi, and there you will assuredly find wallies. You will also have to work much harder to get there than the Carp option.

"

Carp is a great basecamp lake for a shorter trip. A lot of daytrip options as you mention. There is good small lake walleye action in some of the smaller lakes around such as Crawford, Beaver and Fisher.

North Bay has great fishing for all species, and has plenty of areas tucked away if you want a greater feeling of solitude. Lost Bay and especially the bay south of Nest Lake are great choices. Easy 12-13 miles in with easy portages by Quetico standards. Probably only 3-4 hours travel time if you don't fish along the way from Prairie Portage.

Kawnipi is an awesome lake, but it would be a pretty monstrous day 1 push. Harder than getting to Jean I would bet.

The options are pretty endless...Do you want to drive across the border again, or are you willing to enter via the US?

If entering from the south, I'd check out North Bay and Saganagons. Fewer miles and still-good fishing (though not as nice as Jean, in my personal opinion).

Just my .02.

Hi all,

My group conquered our first Q trip last August. We paddled to Jean in a day and base-camped there for 4 nights. We had good luck on the smallies and Lakers.

We are looking for a similar duration trip this year. Ideally less distance compared to last year’s 17 miles to Jean, but if the fishing is comparable we’ll do it. We prefer to basecamp and fish a single lake or short day trip options to fish other lakes. Targeting all fish species, but would like to get into some walleye this year. If you have some entrypoint/route/lake suggestions, we would appreciate it. Thank you!
