mgraber	05/02/2024 12:49AM Not what I'd consider a very productive lake, other than a lot of small Lakers. Emerald is much the same, but they are very pretty lakes.

We found some core samples laying around but not a lot. The campsite is on a point, not quite down as for as the island site as I remember. Have a good trip! LittoralZone	04/27/2024 11:23AM Bumping this to see if anyone wants to add anything. Finally doing this trip later this June! Planning on taking the portages out of Carp to That Man on day 1. Going will be slow as my left plantar fascia has been giving me issues, but it's coming along. I realize there's some steepness to those portages, so if foot isn't up to it I'll stay on Carp and go from there. I can always soak my foot in the cool lake water. Hope all your trips plans are coming together. Thank you in advance.

carmike	03/25/2020 07:59PM I had luck with lake trout in it last year. Nothing big, but that doesn't mean they ain't there. We just trolled Rapalas about 20 feet down. Didn't seem to be rhyme or reason to it...they were spread out all around the east end. I hope your trip doesn't get cancelled!

LittoralZone	03/24/2020 09:05PM Thanks Freeleo1. I'm planning on taking the portages out of Carp to the No-named lake then to That Man that Ausable pinpointed. Emerald is an amazing lake, been there a couple of times. It's beautiful and the water is the best tasting. Not planning on hitting it this time, but you never know. I always make a day trip to Sheridan when I'm on Carp. Another beautiful little lake with the falls and bluffs and it seems to be full of smaller bass, lots of fun on ultra-lights. I'll definitely check out the creek to No Man, I enjoy fishing creeks. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Freeleo1	03/23/2020 09:49PM If it's just one person, the portages to or from That Man and Emerald might be a little rough. They are pretty much straight up a cliff and down. You could probably do it if you're in good shape, but it's not easy even with two people. Emerald is an amazing lake, but it's seems like it's more prone to getting rough in the wind since it's not as narrow. The water in both lakes are crystal clear unless there's a lot of pollen settling on them. If you take the creek to No Man, there's pretty good fishing there and it's an interesting little creek. One pullover for a downed tree. I'm not sure about different types of fish. We've only caught walleye in them. Plus one on Sheridan too. It's a nice little lake and the portage to Carp is short, but very pretty.

Eyedocron	03/19/2020 08:31AM A nice little half day loop from Carp would be to go to Sheridan, to That Man (take the higher up portage to stay out of the low bogs), then a steep uphill to a no name and a steep downhill to Emerald, then back to Carp. I have fished the no name without success.
Freeleo1	03/18/2020 09:53PM We did pretty well down at the entrance to the creek to NoMan last year. Nothing huge but we got dinner. There was a pretty fresh bear poop at the beginning of the portage trail there though, so keep an eye out if you camp nearby or walk the trail. We saw a large animal swimming next to the island we were camped on there also, but it was getting pretty dark and we scared it into heading for the other shore. The smaller island site has limited latrine options. The larger island is better for that, but the fire pit is down in a pit and you have to climb up to see the water. It's a little more protected if its windy though. It also has the "canoe port" landing on the south side that is nice.
LittoralZone	03/15/2020 03:24PM I finally decided on my dates and reserved a Carp Lake permit for late June, total of 14 days. I'm pretty familiar with the area around the northeast end of Carp Lake, so my plan is to see some new water and head into the Man Chain, at least That Man Lake, early in the trip, then back to where/what I know. Any members here willing to pass on, or trade, a little That Man Lake info? Such as a few fishing spots to get me started - all 4 species. I'm probably good on campsites with my maps and the interactive map here. I don't need much, just going to be me and my pup. You can email me if you prefer. Thanks in advance.
