I’ve done that portage, once. That’s about the biggest hill you will find in the Midwest."

I walked it this past weekend sans canoe, height at river=656
height at end of portage=762 although it was 772 near my car
it's nice that it is paved, not nice is that it gets steeper as you go until you are about 75% the way before it starts to level off

there is a no wake in effect on the St. Croix, a great time to paddle there since all the huge boats normally create quite the challenging situation, nice to just glide along and look at the houses thu the leafless trees, which you normally can't see due to the conditions, let alone the forest

+1. I haven't paddled the Kinni but use to go over there to flyfish fairly regularly. I once remember telling people how I could leave my old office in the IDS Tower, and 45 minutes later park in a small suburb of River Falls, then walk a 10 minute hike and be in this glorious, remote canyon with a marvelous trout population that made me feel like I was out west somewhere. I really have to get back over there.

I am sorry for what you are going through with your mother. I went through that 2 years ago and remember how important it was to occasionally let yourself get away. You must take care of yourself too.

The ride down from F to the St. Croix is nice too, but hauling the canoe up to the parking lot at the end, .... whew!"

"

I place my back behind the seat in my C1W, after the first 1/2 mile on F, it is a pretty easy ride.

I think my Tuff weave solo will hold up to it, yet, I bought a $200 kayak from fleet Farm precisely for this place.

Draggg, scrapeee, bump the Kinni is a pretty little river but it is the reason Menard's sells a kayak for $150....

Wow! Very generous of you.

The Kinnickinnic River is a great paddle from River Falls to F. Good to clear you mind.
Did the river falls to F the weekend before Canoecopia, always a good time.

Thank you. I know there are people with a lot more painful and difficult situations than me right now, I was just relating how wonderfully cathartic paddling can be. Already planning a trip back this Saturday, this time to do the whole run from Little Falls to County Road F.

My mother in law is the final stages of dimentia, and we don't want to put her in a nursing home. As a contractor and plumber I can't work from home so the savings are going quickly. It is amazing how the sound of running water, the sights, and sounds, the pull on the paddle, they have a way of clarifying what is real and important in life. "

I'm so happy you took the time to paddle

I'm so sad of your family's situation.

You are not kidding. At 180 cfps I thought it would be deeper, but the Kinni is where Kevlar boats go to die. Next time I would like to take my Royalex Fisherman and try polling the river.
