Hi all,
I don't have a lot of recent canoe experience - I had a Dagger 16 ft. canoe that was fine for small rivers and small lakes and very stable for solo and tandem paddling. I'm in Wisconsin looking at u sed solo canoes (I would like to be able to tour the Boundary Waters with my 65 lb. dog who likes water at some point, and a smaller lightweight canoe seems like a great option for daily use).

I'm looking at a Pat Moore and/or Blackhawk (by Pat Moore) kneeling-style solo canoe. I realize these are small, lively canoes that could tip over easily, but they also seem to be good canoes once you get the hang of them.

My question is really about max weight capacity of small solo canoes. I'm around 160 lbs... then there is the dog at 65 lbs... and I would want to be able to carry an additional 30 pounds... let's say a max weight of 255 lbs. Would that be ok for a small vintage solo canoe like a Mike Galt design or Pat Moore Proem?

Anyone have experience taking a dog in a kneeling canoe like this that is much less stable? If you roll one of these out in open water / large lake, can you get it turned back over and climb back in reasonably? Any experience with that? I've really only used stable canoes before like most people, I would imagine.

Does anybody have experience with a Wenonah Prism and a Pat Moore and/or Blackhawk Proem?
