FYI, it’s not the opening portage that is nasty, it’s the portage from Stuart to Fox. That portage is a beast, it’s about a mile long and there’s lots of deadfall and ups and downs. If it’s a wet time of year, the portage will be full of muskeg. The rest of the route is beautiful. I’ve always wanted to stay at the beautiful island campsite on Rush, but never have. That could possibly be a stop for your group. Nope we had none of that I feel for you, I’ve had portages like that. Canoe to pine comes to mind it’s my all time toughest portage lol |

Did you not have a trip member drop a canoe on their head and concuss themselves? Or another portage in sandals and split a toe? And another one roll an ankle, and one more get bad blisters (because of the wet feet from the beaver pond...)... That portage SUCKED. They had a bit of a cry session at the end of it. Then we had to scramble to find a site on Iron. |

Please post back on your trip! Anxious to hear how the Range River is. We are the same way as far as route. bad weather we take the Horse River and skip Upper Basswood Falls. |

I stayed on rush 2 weeks ago, I didn’t think the portage from Stuart to fox was that bad just long. I hate the one from bear trap river to bear trap lake worse. I think sometimes you mindset is just better for certain portages. Like I hate the 3 portages from fourtown to mudro, so I’m hating them before I start them lol |

06/23/2020 05:04AM We are starting at Mudro this year and headed first to Upper Basswood falls, Wheelbarrow Falls, Lower basswood falls and then Curtain Falls. We were hoping to make it to Rebecca Falls but with the border being shut down it looks like it won't happen. (Unless we get lost) |

06/22/2020 09:33PM I’ve done the mudro loop twice up horse river then one through iron to bear trap river then back out mudro. The other was iron to Stuart then sterling bear trap then out. The last one was quite strenuous and we did it in 10 days but probably should have done 12 days. Had a few long days. I will second that Stuart is a beautiful lake. |

06/22/2020 07:06PM We've only done it from Moose River North and I know a lot of others that do. You could do Stuart or Mudro too. (or LIS N for that matter if you've got the time) If you can work out the vehicle logistics, 16 to 22/23 is a dream route. |

06/22/2020 11:29AM We loved Stuart Lake and the big portage wasn't as bad as we built it up in our heads to be (but we also single portaged it). I would definitely recommend Stuart. I've also been to curtain falls out of Nina Moose and then exited at Mudro - also a great option. Stuart > Iron (Curtain Falls) > Boulder Bay > Nina Moose would be a nice trip |

06/22/2020 10:59AM What is your favorite route to Curtain Falls? I have looked at going through Stuart River. The 1.5 mile portage to start and/or end is somewhat daunting, but is a possibility. Just thought I would ask how others get there. |
