Yeah, I saw your FB post last night. Not what I wanted to see, but not sure how it will affect our plans. Except that you mention closed sites ?? Officially posted? Which ones? That would certainly put even more pressure on the ones still open...

I mean, I love the fishing on Agnes, and the close proximity to LLC, but not sure if we're encouraged now about an overnight stay. (Some may recall my story about the very first night ever with my new bride in the BWCAW in 1978 and a mama bear ripping our tent while we were inside...)

scotttimm: " patrolling the southern six sites"

So by this description, are you stating it is both on the east and west sides of the lake?

Warning!! A friend just got back from Agnes - there’s currently a mom and three cubs patrolling the southern six sites, unafraid of humans. They had to stealth-camp on an island as severe weather approaching, campsites full and the bear Sites closed...warning was there, bear and cubs swam into camp was was hard to deter. They moved to the north side of Agnes and had no more issues...but with 3 cubs she may be roaming north...hope I caught you in time...

I haven't heard anything about a bear this year yet, but check with VNO.

The Tumblehome guys just went this way 2 weeks ago or so and they said the river section had basically no pull-overs then.

schweady: "My wife and I have this trip coming up Sunday. Anxious to return to this favorite entry point... between the two of us, five previous trips started at this EP. We plan to basecamp on Agnes and day trip to the Lac La Croix pictographs before another year goes by and we decide that we are getting too old to push this far. We last visited these pictos together as part of our very first BWCAW trip in 1978 -- a loop from Little Indian Sioux to Stuart -- and hope that everything aligns to allow our return.

Some last minute items, perhaps just as easily answered by the good folks at VNO when we get up there, but I thought I'd toss them out here:

1) Last year, there was a problem bear on Agnes, frequenting the popular sites along the north side. Any known return visits this year or known dispatch of that nuisance bruin?

2) I'm hearing that the multiple beaver dams on Moose R have presented hardly any obstacle this year; openings seem to exist that are easily paddled through, for the most part. Have folks here experienced the same?

3) Does anyone have any distant pics of the main LLC pictograph cliffs area? Taken from the west across the waters. I'm looking for a full panorama of the various panels. Creating that image is one goal of this year's trip, if the weather cooperates.

Thanks, all!

Following this thread - entered here last year and returning with the whole family to do the same late July, may stay on Agnes or push into Tiger Bay area. Last year there were at least 5 beaver dams to pull over. Such a great area. I didn't get a full panorama of the pictographs, just close ups...that's a good idea!
