11/23/2020 09:30AM I opted for a cabin rented through AirBnB and picked out over near Fergus Falls right between 2 state parks that we can explore. I haven't spent a ton of time in that area besides 1 weekend at Maplewood State Park so it will be fun to explore a little more. I also really like the cancellation policy, We can cancel the day before and get a full refund or we can cancel up until 1 minute before out check in time and only be out a service fee. Planning during covid requires flexibility to thats why I decided to go this route. I'm saving some of the BWCA area cabins for future reference, may try to do one of them next winter. |

11/22/2020 02:52PM Hungry Jack Lodge has some winter cabins for rent. They are on Hungry Jack Lake up the Gunflint Trail. Bearskin Lake is also just a short walk across the road. |

11/22/2020 09:32AM Loon Lake Lodge up the Gunflint Trail has a beautiful log cabin for winter usage. I highly recommend it. It is a lake trout lake, so the action typically isnt fast and furious, but my wife and I walked out and caught a couple including this one.

11/19/2020 11:40PM Thanks for all of the suggestions. I started looking at airbnb and vrbo last night and might go that route. I'm liking that we can do contactless checkin with either of them and the ones I'm looking at have really flexible cancelation policies so given the covid situation both factors are more important than normal. Just have to decide on which one I want to go with now. Looking at some near Ely and various other parts of the state. |

11/19/2020 12:17PM I stayed at Voyagers Outfitters this spring while the BWCA was closed to overnight camping. The cabin was great and they gave us a good deal due to the covid situation. The only issue I might bring up is how they are located on a river. It gives you a nice on-the-water feel, but you have to travel a distance to get to either Sea Gull or Saganaga. In the summer this is less of an issue, but you might have a harder time getting to a fishing spot in the winter. I've been to Tuscarora Outfitters as well but never stayed in any of their cabins. Never fished on Round Lake either. The outfitter is right on the lake, and from what I have seen from when we were looking for a cabin this spring, the cabins are nice too. If you are looking for a place where you can walk to an ice fishing spot in a few minutes then this would work. Like I said though, I have no idea about the fishing on Round Lake, but I have caught trout on other lakes in the area. The only other outfitter with cabins I have been to is Clearwater. Very nice location with good cabins, bit nicer than I was looking to pay for this last spring. This one is right on the water as well. The only issue I might see is where the fishing is good, similar to the situation at Tuscarora. I have fished on this lake though and the fishing is better the further east you go and it is a big lake. Deep too, so making sure the ice is safe first would be important. Beautiful lake though and I'm sure you would have an amazing view. |

I stayed in one last Feb. It got to -30 one night. They are literally at the end of the Gunflint. Very remote!! They did offer a half off sale last winter if you sign up for their emails. Gunflint outfitters has a lot of cabin$$ to rent too. Tom |

11/17/2020 06:56PM Rockwood has one winter cabin. Nor'wester might have something. Friend of mine stayed there for snowmobile trip so something is open in winter. Both on Poplar lake which should have some chances at ice fishing. |

11/17/2020 12:09AM I'm looking for recommendations on a winter cabin to rent. Looking for week after Christmas for 3-5 days. Anyone have a good suggestion? Ideally 2 bedrooms that sleeps 4. Looking to do a little family get away with the wife and 2 kids. Bonus points if its on a lake with some easy ice fishing access so I can take the kids out for a bit. |
