And, you actually needed a little more time than that if you were to finish out the process, dipping them a number of times in urethane. 12/04/2020 12:36PM +1 on the Country Ways Ojibway. I’ve beaten on mine pretty hard for years and they just keep going. Not that hard to make. This may not matter for all, but I like my Ojibway because they do a great job getting through brush if I’m doing any sort of bushwhacking which I love to do. I certainly agree that the cleats on modern shoes would be nice some time, but would not trade it for the float of mine. Also agree your pack should get off your back and on a sled if at all possible.

You need as much surface area as possible. Small modern shoes won't work right in light 3 ft+ deep snow. The one's weaved with Monofiliment fishing line tend to weigh less and clump slush less. Snowshoes need to be sprayed with silicon spray and PAM cooking spray or the slush can stop you dead cold in your tracks. Deep snow and slush even with snowshoes can be a slow slow go. Good luck! |

11/29/2020 02:33PM While I love our Country Way Ojibway 'shoes, I do know that if we were to do any winter camping/hauling of loads, we would probably look toward modern designs with the metal cleat for traction - both uphill and down. Also, would look at pulling gear on a pulk rather than wearing a backpack. I just finished watching Winter Camping in the Boundary Waters, part of the Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Adventure Expo series. Some basic info, some food for thought. |

I don’t know that I have a preference in style, as these will be my first snowshoes and I don’t t have the experience to know what’s best. I was thinking Huron, Ojibwa or Bear Paws. I do know that I need a pair for a heavy load, as I’m 225+lbs without a heavy backpack on my back. Jess |

11/25/2020 10:43AM Hello all, I have been in the market for traditional wooden snowshoes and have come across several that do not list a brand name, only “Made in Canada” along with the dimensions. Can any of you give me additional information on these? For example:  I could send a link to those pair of snowshoes on eBay, but I’m not sure if that’s allowed. Thanks for the help! Jess |
