no we're splitting up, 2 of the groups for sure are going up Little Indian Sioux and going to Lynx or Little Loon. One of the groups is thinking of doing the loop through Oyster and out Nina Moose. We'll be split up well enough. Now if you all are in town and trying to order pizzas and your order comes in after ours it may take a bit, lol....

sedges: "32 people is going to be 4 permits. Are you all starting at the same entry?"
Not suggested.

If same dates, name 4 different leaders and go from 4 different EPs. Just my 2 cents after regrettable mistakes made in the past while filled with an optimistic naiveté.

32 people is going to be 4 permits. Are you all starting at the same entry? There are only a couple of options that offer 4 or more permits a day and they are popular. You will have to be right on top of getting your reservations when they open up. You say you're starting on the 14th, but what month?

Spent 2 days on Iron on 1839. Great site with good fishing and multiple tent pads with a couple right by the water.

We're heading in Monday 14th and coming out the 18th - short trip, I'm heading in with one of ole' buddies and part of a BSA troop from Tenn. (32 of us in total)

Depending on availability of permits my wife and I may duplicate this trip or Basswood Falls area later in Aug. of this year.

Perfect thank you all for your input !!! - I did not realize on the maps that so many people added photos of the portages and added details. Very helpful for sure !!!

I’d recommend staying on Crooked (good sites not far from Curtain Falls) as Iron can be packed in the summer. Here’s an addendum to the map showing the alternate portage. I use it if the water’s really high or really low.

Have a great trip!

Yep ^^^ that's what I was talking about as "here" haha.

And on that map....back to my comment about the downstream landing. (the flow is east to west over the falls) On the map where the west part of the portage takes a turn...instead draw a line SW to that bay and land there if you're on Iron and headed to the falls. If you're coming from Crooked you'll be at the top of the falls and just take the regular trail and go on your merry way.

This ought to help you a bit.

The maps page here has ratings. Plenty of trip reports to Iron and Crooked too to look back on since those will be your options likely for being nearest the falls. The only sites I've personally stayed at have reviews here on the maps page that are either mine or already match what I would have said.

On Iron, depending on when you go you'll see others so you may not get your pick spot even though you might have one you really want. My tip for Curtain Falls is take the alternate portage landing on Iron that's in the small bay south of the river. Plenty of people have swamped or come close trying to paddle up to the mapped portage landing in the current. There's another landing in the bay south of there that doesn't add much distance and you don't deal with any current. (of course if you're headed downstream, no big deal)

Hi Folks - any insight on good campsites around the Curtain Falls area ?
