aquatik: "is your day motor permit for Fall lake entry to Pipestone Bay of Basswood, or Moose lake entry to Inlet Bay of Basswood? If it's the former you'll have to pull your own boat across two portages on using your own wheels. Boat campers have a tendency to bring too much gear via either route, but especially that one."

No walking. You stay in the boat while they drive you across.

You will HAVE to stay on the US side. Border closed or not....boats aren't allowed in Canada there I'm pretty sure. As for the portage, I don't there's any call ahead type thing. Just take who's next in line, bring the right amount of cash. Your outfitter will know all this....they do it daily.

It appears a member of our group obtained a day use motor pass for Basswood! Just wondering what if anything we may need to utilize this.
1) Do we need to schedule our portage for that day
2) Will we need any other permits, paperwork, etc. Plan on staying on the U.S. side.
3) I'm all ears if anyone would share fishing spots, tips, etc!
4) When they portage the boat is it a long walk? Thinking of my dad and how much gear to leave behind.
5) If I forgot something....

I'll add a great friend/co-worker started taking me on BW trips over 20yrs ago. This will be the first with a cabin but I'm brining my hammock to keep it real LOL. With the exception of the last two yrs ( had an accident ) I've made a trip every year since the first. Have introduced my son, nephew, brother and now his wife, along with my wife and favorite partner. This year due to physical restrictions I have organized my whole family, 21 total to share with me. Utilizing outfitters and their cabins can't wait to show my parents why this area has became special to me. My Dad has a passion for fishing like no other that I know, it's truly all he did while I was growing up and still enjoys today. I'm hoping to keep him on the lake everyday we are there rain or shine! Also show him Crappie isn't they only fish!
