Just have to keep wits about you bicycling on that winding road with some fast-driving outfitters! " We’ve done the bike thing before too. Worked great. I did it on a tandem trip stashing the bike at Stuart River after dropping the vehicle off and riding it back from Moose River. It worked great, except the road was a little sloppy which slowed the bike ride down a bit. I also did the same thing when entering at Lake One and exiting at Snowbank Lake. It saves some money and isn’t too much trouble if you have someone willing to bike. |

We brought along a bike that was .... well .... replaceable, just in case it disappeared. I stashed it well, in part for protection, but also not to ruin anyone's wilderness view! |

My kid (hell, he's 35 now) is one of those guys that bike commutes 20 miles a day year-round. Back when there was an office to go to, anyway. Sounds like something he could do for his old man. |

03/12/2021 08:59AM Voyager, wow, I see that! And we do have some extra time. We'd planned to go down Crooked to Friday Bay, then drop south and double back through the Beartrap River and Sundial PMA. But south through Big Lake looks like a great other option. I've never been in the section south of the Echo Trail and LIS South has been on my list for a long time. My son proud of hot fit he is so he'd love those portages coming and going to Big Moose, right? I'll check some distances. Thanks! |

03/12/2021 07:23AM If you had the time and the inclination you could make a complete loop. There's an old portage from the Echo Trail that leads to Big Lake, just west of the Stewart Lake parking lot entrance. |

03/12/2021 06:41AM I'll inquire with Big Lake too. I've wondered about Little Indian Sioux South and exiting in that area so they might be useful for that too. thanks! |

03/12/2021 06:34AM Big Lake Wilderness Lodge. It's located just up the trail from the Stuart River EP. We only used them for permit issue and shuttle service, but they are a full-service outfitter and should have everything you need. |

03/11/2021 02:46PM Paddling from Little Indian Sioux EP 14 to Stuart EP 19 in late May and looking for a shuttle. Expect we'll arrive via the Echo Trail from Orr and Buyck on the west. Anyone have experience with an outfitter or others on that end of the Echo Trail that shuttles people/vehicles? We usually come from Ely or else the Gunflint so this is new for me. Thanks! |
