My gut tells me Norther tier draws from the same pool, as does the Girl scout camp and the other 5 outfitters/resorts on Moose lake. So yes lots of competition for Moose lake. From what I can see the BSA would average about 5/day, and I would assume most would be for Moose, but they can enter else ware as well, guessing Snowbank would be the other primary entry point for them.

Do the Northern Tier groups draw from the same quota permits as the rest of us? That's also a lot of Quetico permits that are now BWCA.

Jaywalker: "I don’t disagree that it’s stacking up to be another busy year, but isn’t Moose nearly always full in June due to to scout camp there? "

That’s a good point. But other popular routes are also showing early signs of pressure, especially those known for good fishing.

Knife and several other lakes in that area are some of our favorites but it looks like our plan to a far less popular area this year may be a good one. The whole thing has a love it to death feel much like our local, state and national parks.

How much additional demand do you think the Canadian border closure is causing? 10-15%?

Maybe a good reason to split up moose lake and make it 2 or 3 entry points.
Have wind lake a separate entry point. Then maybe Ensign a separate one.
Then have Newfound and beyond another.
Simple answer to a complex question.

MikeinMpls: "gravelroad: "Here's an early indication of what this summer will look like.

The Moose Lake entry point is allotted 27 daily overnight paddle permits.

NONE are currently available from May 26 through June 26. Large chunks of the following weeks show similar daily exhaustion of the available permits. "

Oh, Lord. That's potentially 827 groups in 31 days. I know there won't be that many groups, some will cancel or no show, but still...that's a lot of people and canoes and gear. I'm afraid the BWCA will resemble a KOA again this year.

Mike"

The big question is how long are those groups staying. The longer everyone's trips, the more demand for campsites.
