11/01/2021 06:12PM Excellent. Thanks all the suggestions! Jaywalker, I have taken that Tuscarora portage in the winter by myself. Great going in but then 10" of snow came down and I had to break path all the way back to Round Lake. Memorable trip. |

10/29/2021 09:29AM I have been going for 12 years and have had the best luck on seagull for both size and quantity. If you're not tied to the BWCA we also did well on Moss although they were smaller. Have not fished Duncan or Daniels. |

10/28/2021 08:21PM The trail into Tuscarora is usually good if you are up for a bit of a hike. May not have the size Lakers as Seagull, but usually is reliable and more of a sense of wilderness. |

10/28/2021 03:59PM Hey all, With a change in employment (yeah!) I now have the opportunity to get back to winter camping on a more planned and regular basis. I am looking at getting out in possibly late January or late February for a 3 night trip. More importantly, my buddy will also be able to make it. Now, he really likes fishing, and I would like to get him to a spot in the BWCA that has lake trout. He has had a rough past year and since we haven't been able coordinate enough to get the hot tent out in about two years, I am really looking forward to making sure this is a good and well planned out trip. Looking at the winter trip reports, I am narrowing my focus to Duncan or Sea Gull lakes because those look the most promising for lake trout in the winter. However, I ask the more experienced winter anglers here, if they have any recommendations instead of those two lakes. Feel free to email me if you wish. Thanks much. |
