Grandma L	03/03/2022 04:28PM I was looking at the Drought Map as a starting point - long way to go. You are right about the run off. The water just flows away.
cyclones30	03/03/2022 12:32PM Winter precip doesn't do much for a drought unless it melts really slow. Rain or snow on frozen ground doesn't soak in. Just makes lakes and rivers higher until the runoff/melt is done. A drought map in winter is pretty much a WAG

cyclones30	03/02/2022 06:36PM Yeah if they got 4" of rain when it could have been snow....that's FEET of snow that fell as rain instead. Add a good 5' to your totals if that was snow. That would probably change people's thoughts on the winter totals

We probably have 24+ as well, but like you, can't get to top five in my mind. I'm not even sure it's top 5 in the last 20 years.

Grandma L	03/02/2022 09:45AM Yeah, in Grand Rapids, MN at my house, we have a lot of snow on the ground but it is all low moisture light fluffy stuff. My guy only plowed a few times so far. I am hoping for March snows. The boys basketball tournament time is a traditional "storm" time.
Speckled	03/02/2022 09:14AM I wonder how that's measured? I live west of Two Harbors in the Knife River Valley. This winter, my feeling, without looking at any actual data is the winter been mild to normal from a snowfall standpoint. I'm basing this on how many times i've had to plow, height of the banks and depth of snow. For example, snow depth compared to my cedar split rail fence in the front yard. I can think of quite a few years in the past 20, where the top rail was under the snow. This year it's only about half way between the bottom and top rail...so maybe a foot less in show depth? Maybe it rained some early in the season? I don't know. I just never would have guessed this would be the 5th wettest winter in the last 130.
cyclones30	03/02/2022 08:54AM Looks like it's been one of the wettest winters in 100+ years up there. Should help for water levels if it can melt off slowly.
