Did this trail the weekend before Memorial last year, no bugs, no people and lots of grouse drumming, great time of year. The Avenza map is great, use it in airplane mode, your battery will last the whole trip.

Fall is a great time to do the trail, especially after the underbrush starts diminishing. The Snowbank Trail has a few really nice viewpoints that are beautiful with some fall color (see below). Why wait until next year when you could go in just a few weeks!

I have also done the trail Memorial weekend, and that is an equally nice time of year. The only drawback is that the ticks can be THICK. I brought my dog and that trip and we pull hundreds of ticks off of her. That is also a popular time because it is a long weekend, so be prepared for some campsite competition.

Also, check out the On Foot forum here. You'll find more tidbits of info in previous threads about the trail.

Hey, hey!

Just hiked this trail with my friend over Memorial Day Weekend and had a blast. I’ve linked my trip report below. Some of which the type 2 fun shines through, but that is all hiking.

I thought Memorial Weekend was perfect. The birds as you can see in one of my 8 minute videos were in full force. We downloaded the Merlin Bird ID app and identified about 20+ species all singing to us all day.

I bet fall would be really nice too. I never backpack in the summer due to the flies. Shoulder season here all the way.

Definitely download Avenza map app on your phone… go to the store section, and download the Wild Map (TM) Snowbank Terrain map. It is PHENOMENAL, and you can use your phone as a GPS (the app is free and so is this particular map). It will drain your battery super quickly, so make sure to swipe the app off when not checking actively.

The trail is super easy to follow, and there are carins in the rocky sections helping you along the way. Reach out with any questions.

Planning a hiking trip with my brothers next year.
What's the best time of year for this trail?
