I'm not sure when the Badwater-Quetico portage last saw maintenance, and some areas could use some corridor trimming. We think the lack of swampy conditions had more to do with time of year and low water levels than recent maintenance. Not much one can do about the portage's length except stop and rest as needed. Our typical mileage for a 10-day trip runs 100-125 miles, and (except for our exit day) our wind day was our least mileage and below average for us. And we were worn out when we reached our site. My only negative comment about the northwest corner of Quetico would be that there's no easy escape from the wind on the big lakes there. TZ |

Congratulations on your 50 years together--I find myself thinking I would like to use Tia's quote about marriage and canoe tripping myself, but I won't steal it! We have had some anniversary trips, but since our anniversary is in December they have never been canoe trips. Yours was ambitious, and from the report, it looks like it was very successful.
