Alworth is off the beaten track and the MnDNR reports it contains walleye. It is easy to get to once you have gotten to Ima. We mostly fished Thomas when we went that way, but only caught one Walleye at dusk. It was at the beginning of July though and really hot and bright sun. We camped at the campsite between Alworth and Ima on the way to Thomas. That would give you the option of trying both. Maybe someone else has tried fishing Alworth. We should have tried it, but were just passing through at that point.

RMinMN: "Jordan has only 3 campsites so you might not get to stay there but it is a short portage to Ima which has a number of campsites and it is likely that you can get one there if needed.

There are fewer lakes in that area that hold lake trout so people talk about going to Ima for them but it does have other fish too."

One can only hope a site on Jordan is open if not on to Ima no big deal.
I just want to catch some walleyes. No clue on how to fish for Lake Trout

YetiJedi: "Hey Podgeo,

Looks like you've got some good options. While I am just a novice walleye fisher, my experience has been Ensign and Thomas are your two best bets. Yep, probably nearly an extra day of travel on both ends of the trip to go into Thomas. The smaller lakes around Thomas also hold good numbers of walleye if you are interested in moving around. My advice: if you want to focus on fishing for walleye, stay on Ensign and learn it well. If you want to also see some places and spend more time tripping, make the trek to Thomas.

Either way...good luck!"

Ive fished Ensign many times. Only want to stay as a last resort. or spend the last one or two days of the trip on Ensign.
My hope is to grab a site on Jordan and day trip Ima, Hachet and Thomas

I have a Moose Lake permit and am thinking of going back to Ima lake. Want to fish walleye, but in looking at old threads, it seems like the fish of choice on Ima is Lake Trout. Thomas and Jordon have some walleyes, but not a lot of talk of people catching them on Jordon or Ima. With Thomas, people talk of catching more walleyes there, but not sure I want to go that far.

I know Ensign is a great walleye lake. Do I stay there or go up to Vera?
