Find a remote lake in the superior national forest where no permits are needed and preferably a 10 hp limit. Voyager is off the list for now because of the larger boats. Otter lake is more my style. I still have three good limbs so I could portage into a lake once, but I plan on staying in that lake and just po dunk around.. Yeah last time 10 day solo I shot newton falls fully loaded, hung out on warrior hill, schlepped my kayak to a lake with no trail. But this time's going to be different. |

08/06/2023 11:28AM Just rent a houseboat in Voyageur's National Park. That thing was a ridiculous amount of work and would be an eye sore in the BWCA. |

08/05/2023 08:00PM Evening, folks. I watched a YT video that got me thinking about camping again. It was called something like “Home Depot Tote Float” where the author built a raft and camped on it. I believe the raft may have been launched in one of the entry lakes that allows motors, but I'm not certain. Regardless, rafting looks like a laid back way of enjoying and fishing remote lakes in northern minnesota, especially if you're disabled. I imagine there are fewer insects if you anchor out a ways too. My question is, what's the best resource to research this? For example, Saganaga Lake is motorized on the Canadian side, but how about the US side where I see a boat ramp at the end of the Gunflint Trail? Where can I find the restrictions for the most remote northern lakes with allot of rock structures? Any suggestions regarding this plan for next august? Should I consider voyager even though I want to stay away from busy lakes? Thanks |
