Hi Curt. Thank you for your comment and encouragement. The Dawson Portage. It was a necessary portage for us to make a loop trip. Four mile portage was just out of the plan on foot. They were very reliable and on time, some what expensive. There are still the busses (4) in the woods, all grown over (they will never be used). They used an old GMC Suburban (which looked older than it was) with trailer. There are still the old dozers on the side, in the woods.
The Railroad Portage. It was a nice comfort item for us, kayakers. With canoe, it is not needed and we probably would not have used it. But, with kayaks, it saved us about and hour (unpacking and re-loading).
Have a great day.

Nice report. Like the pics. Always great to see everyone's enthusiasm around the BWCA.

Thanks for posting. I would not care for the motorboats either.

Nice report. Been over the Dawson portage many times, but not for a while.

Do they still have that old bus to take people over the portage? I have lots of stories about that.

What did you think of the railroad portages?

Curt

Nice Report. I was up on loon and la croix a week after you...I wasnt digging the motor traffic there either.

I looked at your camp on loon lake, but picked the one just east of it. Nice sand beach and elevated

I am once again reminded how each trip can be totally different for the next person, to the next group. Congrats on making it.
