02/11/2010 01:10PM Yeah, my guys need a little work, but we had a blast on this trip. The tall kid, his nickname is Jocko, is one of those guys who is basically completely useless, except for finishing the last burger on the plate. Never helps with any chores, has his partner Joel set up the tent, carry the canoe and keep him organized etc. But, he has an endearing quality that I love. He is a perpetual smartass and always has the perfect one liner for every situation. I don't care if he doesn't do anything else but keep me giggling. And he is not a complainer. Funny kid. |

02/11/2010 11:05AM Spotted Owl - I have three tips for you: Tip 1: If everyone paddles in the same direction the canoe will go faster. Tip 2: Use spray on deodorant vs. roll on and you won't have to wind dry! Tip 3: Sometimes a kind word works better than a hot poker up da Azz. |

02/11/2010 08:52AM Thanks, spottedowl. We are going in on Sept 20th and wind has been a factor on all five of my Sept trips, so I think it's just realistic. I've seen 20-30 mph winds a lot with 40-50 mph gusts. One time wind a was a factor on all 8 days of my 7-day trip :). It can also be cold, so a dump could be a big problem. At least I won't be solo this time and my brother is a strong paddler, but not a lot of experience. But I had good weather last year, although I came out a day early to avoid that kind of weather. I'm hoping for a nice indian summer day like last fall. We'll definitely be sticking close to shore though and using the islands and bays. |

02/10/2010 10:55PM boonie- I want you to chill on your anxiety about the waves on Bald Eagle. 1st of all you've got till September before you'll catch a whisper. You keep stressing and you'll never make it out of the mighty Snake. 2ndly the lake is large, but not huge. Get across a couple of bays, use the few islands, keep your nose to the wind, and you can go anywhere, anyday. It's really a blast. I would suggest you go up to the north end. That's where the action is and then the wind isn't a factor as much. |

02/10/2010 08:56PM I hope Bald Eagle's a little calmer than that when we're there, spootedowl. |
