Tom & Dave - Thanks. Maybe if we had an actual fisherman with us we would have eaten fish. The border patrol guy just could not believe that ANYONE could fail to catch dozens of fish up there. We did have a pretty good laugh about it afterwards.

At first all the pics were big. I used the photobucket method to insert the pics right into the text. It took me a little bit to learn how to use the photobucket features. I then went back and downsized some of the photos. But for the most part I feel the big pics give a better feel for how big the place is. The park really is HUGE and we saw only 1 other canoe party. And we only saw them because they were exiting with us.

Had either party changed its route we would have seen no other campers at all.

Very nice report. I love the big pics. It's pretty hilarious that you lost both fish. I'm sure you had a great time anyway. Looks like something I'd like to do someday. Thanks!

arctic - The trout was hooked in a pool just below Sunrise Falls.
You can actually see where it was caught in a pic I put in the report looking up Sunrise Falls. I'll edit the report and note that by the pic. Pat was fishing for walleye with a simple leech, but caught the trout. And it was a laker.

Very reasonable cost for a Wabakimi trip Jim. Looks like I've got a new trip on my "bucket list."

Great trip report and photos! When we travelled up the Lookout River in the mid-90s we had some of the best walleye fishing I had ever seen. Fish on almost every cast. Truly beautiful country, too.

Where did you guys hook that trout? I assume it was a laker, as the brook trout country starts at the north edge of Wabakimi.

Andy - I looked it up and the train fare for 1 adult, 1 way is about $15.00.
Remember, the train runs eastbound on Friday mornings from Allanwater Bridge at around 8am and one other day of the week, I think they said Tuesday. It runs Westbound from Armstrong on Fridays at 10pm and again, one other day of the week.

Thwarted - Were you one of the guys who were at Wildwaters on Thurs. night?

Thank you jcavenagh,

I was there with you for about 15 minutes. No mosseys for me either!

Andy - The whole trip, including renting 1 canoe, 1 night in a hotel in Superior, and all food and liquor, fishing licenses, maps, shuttle to/from the outfitters, etc. cost around $550.00 per man. I don't really know how much the train fare was, but the canoes were 23$CN each which we paid after we loaded them.
So, $55.00 per day. A bargain in any language!

Great report and beautiful pictures Jim. I am intrigued by the train pickup. Is the cost reasonable? Great way to end your trip. Also, next time you have to sleep in a tent, make sure the rocks, sticks and cones are cleared from the pad first. Some day I'll try a hammock.

Great report jcavenagh. We exited where you entered on Little Caribou. It was great seeing some familiar sights! We unfortunately had wind every day (and it change directions and usually was a headwind). Little Caribou/Caribou area is lovely and it was one of the greenest areas we encountered. Glad you made it back safely and shared some great stories. Where to next?? :)
