03/17/2015 10:00AM Thanks all for the replies. We ended up taking the Four Mile portage to Ella Hall lake. It might have been closer to 4 miles, but the flat trail, packed by dog sleds, was just what the doctor ordered for our friend. Ella Hall is a beautiful lake and ours seemed to be the first tracks on it all winter. |

02/25/2015 01:10PM Mud Lake for non-stop pike action...takes about an hour hike from Fall Lake boat landing. Your buddy will appreciate the trail packed hard by dog teams...minimal exertion if you stay on the trail. |

02/21/2015 05:34PM Entry # 8 Moose River South, snowshoe into Big Moose via the Big Moose trail. Great campsites, great fishing, nice hike. |

02/20/2015 05:13PM Well welcome then. Try Hegman as an entry and camp on Little Bass lake. The portage into Little Bass was beautiful when we campd there. Hegman is a down hill trot of about 1/4 mile. Angle worm lake is also very nice. Best of luck on your trip. |

02/20/2015 01:58PM Hi All - I'm mostly a lurker but thanks to the great advice here I've had 5 years of excellent winter trips of varying difficulty. I have a group of 5 going out again this year but one of our members now has a health issue that prevents him from exerting himself too much, so we'd like to find a place to camp that's not too far of a snowshoe, maybe 2-3 miles. This is just a 3 night trip out of Ely. It'd be nice if there was some fishing - and maybe not too crowded - but we understand that the closer in we are the more folks we can expect to see. And that's fine - getting into the BW is often reward enough. Anyway, any spots come to mind? Thanks! |
