07/01/2015 06:50PM Yep, entered at Pickerel June 7-12. Lots of rain and NNW winds. The bugs will be getting ferocious soon. |

06/30/2015 08:02PM Nice to meet you as well. Always nice to run into BWCA.com'ers out in the woods. Yes, fishing was much, much better on Pickerel (and Batchewaung). Not sure why it was so slow early on in the trip, but it was nice to get into some fast and furious topwater action the last few nights. |

06/30/2015 05:54PM I talked to Moosehopper on my way out. He was in the canoe by himself taking pictures of a loon. |

06/30/2015 10:28AM Carmike; I dont remember much about the chubby male but I do remeber the tall dark haired female. I was paddling the green mohawk solo. Hope your fishing was as good as ours was on Pickerel lake. It was nice meeting you, hope you had a great trip. H2o; usually you can paddle the lower section and quite often the top as well, at the end of the week you could paddle the lower section. if you need to portage the lower section you will find it across from the south side of the small island at the mouth of the river. I suggest you walk this short portage without gear before as it is quite overgrown and it can be easy to miss the put in with a canoe obstructing your view. The portage at the top as Carmike described is on the right side. Anthony |

06/29/2015 10:52PM We paddled up the first set of "rapids" into Russell, but the second portage is on the right as you head upriver, just behind a fallen tree that makes it a bit tough to see initially. There's a nice flat rock there to help mark the spot. |

06/29/2015 10:37PM Anthony, I am curious about the portages between Sturgeon and Russel. I have been through there a number of times and have not seen them. Could you shed light on where they are. I have been fortunate to be able to paddle up the river when I have gone but expect that some day I may have to portage around. Thanks Jerry |

06/29/2015 09:35PM I was just in that area as well. I might've run into you guys...Did you happen across a chubby guy wearing idiotically stupid sunglasses paddling a Wenonah with a tall, dark-haired female? |

06/29/2015 09:13PM Thanks for the report. Going in under three weeks for the northern part of your described area. Sounds like you did much of our last year trip. |

06/29/2015 10:20AM Just returned. Current conditions. Water high to normal, bugs much less than expected, fishing moderate to good. Rained almost every day, not all day. Plenty water in the Deux riviere to paddle. Had to portage the lower section and the upper section of fast water on the small river between Sturgeon up to Russell. Chatterton falls was really rocking. Ran into Moosehopper and his son Kai at Stanton bay. Anthony |
