You would probably need to take a satellite phone with you and call the Quetico ranger station each day.

While primarily for weather, NOAA weather radio will also announce non-weather emergencies. For example while on a recent Quetico trip about a week ago, I was advised of a landline 9-1-1 service outage for Cook Country. But there was no mention of the recently enacted fire ban that occurred mid-trip, as I found out later).

I also had coverage for the entire length of the trip (Hunter Island). Higher spots work best and free of trees if possible.

No, just weather.

As for Quetico, Canada has a weather broadcast similar to NOAA, only it is celsius/metric and broadcast in both English and French.

I've used my weather radio several times in the Q. I have a NOAA myself. Mostly can get the weather out of Atikokan. Sometimes out of Ely / Northshore stations if you stand in a particular spot in camp.

I have a NOAA weather radio. Will it pick up anything in the Quetico?

In addition, would it pick up any civil emergency notifcations? Deciding whether to bring an AM/FM to check in the event of fires on a 9-day trip starting next week.
