12 days, 2 people that's 16-17 per day each. Base camping in the Q in June very doable.

How do you catch that many fish? Is it technique, timing or location, or all three?

quote BLee: "Sounds like you had a good trip Dave. I was on Saganagons for most of my trip, but on the other side of deadman's portage. I got in on the 17th and had good walleye action that evening. After that the walleye were hard to come by. I did catch some quality small mouth through out the week. I went out through Silver Falls on the 24th. I probably just missed you there somewhere."

Sounds like you had good action as well! The fishing this trip was hot and cold for us with the weather. We were on the Silver Falls portage from 8am to about 1000. Tow out from Seagull's around noon.

It certainly could have been just 3 George. Actually my son is going with 3 but since I'm an old fisherman I say 6!lol They were on two different large islands and seemed to be on the move so it was a good chance it was just the 3. We had a guy with us on the tow out that said he saw one farther east of us.

WOW.........6 moose.......

6 different moose, or do you think you might have seen the same a couple times. NO matter, that is awesome :) :) .

My son and I had a another AWESOME trip to Quetico the past two weeks. Here's a little info of what we experienced base camping on Saganagons with a tow from Seagull Outfitters.

Fishing was hot and cold, typical for this time of year. Here one day and gone the next with the weather. Our first three days were cool/dreary/drizzly, then 3 nice warm days followed by 3 days of wind and another cold front and finally 3 more nicer days. For us the better fishing days were sunny or the hazy sunny days that warmed up the main lake. On the sunniest days we saw lots of smallies moving shallow and pairing up to spawn. Lots of nice quality smallmouth, walleye and some whitefish. Pike were hitting but no trophies for us although they are incidental catches for us and we don't target them. No lake trout although we didn't try too hard but we did see one angler catch one in deep water on the third day when water temps were still cold. Overall action was on the slow side and the bite sluggish. We did experience some hot and heavy action in the usual peak times of the day...almost 400 fish.

Water levels/temps...since we stayed on the same campsite last year we were able to determine the water level was up about an inch from our 2015 June trip and rising another 2-3 inches during our stay. Water temps cold, I'm guessing upper 50's main lake at the start of the trip but warmed to luke warm after the sunny days then back to cooler after the mid-trip cold front.

Bugs...really not an issue. Mosquitoes were bad on the Silver Falls portage heading in but very absent at camp for our stay even in the evening or cloudy mornings. Never touched the bug spray until the last day. Then on the last day yesterday they were horrible at our campsite but absent on the Silver Falls portage coming out...so I don't know what to make of that. Black flies were a little annoying near shore early in the day. Horse/stable flies always seemed to show up when going for a swim. Lots of mayflies, not huge swarms but some good numbers in the evening. A lot of larvae being spit up by smallies/eyes when being caught.

Good wildlife...6 moose, 2 sets of twins on Gons with their mothers that all seemed to be in great condition. Eagles, loons, snakes, turtles, vultures, beaver, ducks, one unidentified large bird(swan?), ducks, otter(tried to steal my fathers day breakfast).

Probably missed a bunch of info, my brain is still in shock from being back....just ask for anything specific that I might be able to answer.
