Yesterday morning early I was at my sister's in central MN and hear a group of Trumpeter swans fly over. I ran out and saw a group of 4 go past, then another group of about 12, then 4 more passing over her empty corn field. Few minutes later I heard it again, then again, then again. When she got up I asked her if she thought it might be the same group flying in circles and she said no, that they have been doing this every morning heading over to another field, then flying back every evening. We continued to see one small group of 4 or 6 or 10 or 14 or so after another.
About noon we drove over to a field just off US 169 and there they were - AT LEAST 200-300, maybe more, out in a filled field. I've definitely been seeing more swans both locally and in the BWCA in the past few years, but this is the first time I've seen literally several hundred in one spot.
