quote brux: "Thanks for sharing. How'd it work out with everyone in their own hammock?"
Basecamp Kid was a little too nervous to sleep in her own at night. I suppose it is like having your own tent, so she slept with Basecamp Dad.
Comfort wise - absolutely LOVE the hammock, but it was a little eerie when you wake up at 2am and listen to ever critter near you. I think all we had were squirrels and a rouge snapping turtle in camp though.

nice video! i didn't realize you were all in your own hammocks until someone mentioned it. basecamp kid is so happy in all the shots, it's very uplifting to see a young family enjoy learning about the BWCA together!

quote Northwoodsman: "Great video. I loved the soundtrack. That is one of the best versions i have heard yet. Nice choice."
Thanks! I love Rend Collective!

quote deerfoot: "Nice trip report. I was there in mid May. You had better weather - the third week of May gave us mostly 40 degree temps and rain with a little sleet one evening. At least we had no bugs."
Yikes! That reminds me of my first trip ever to the BWCA - it was terribly cold and rainy - and it snowed on us. It made us feel pretty hardcore though. ;-)
The weather was mostly good/okay for us. A few spotty showers here and there... the first two days the wind was relentless as you could see in the video clip of me in my hammock. believe it or not, my hammock tarp was battened down tight and it still blew all over the place like that!

quote boonie: "Nice video report! How did basecamp Kid do on the Crab portage? (if I remember, that was a concern?)"
On the way in - she did pretty good for about 1/4 of the way. Then she dropped her pack claiming it was "so heavy" before we even got to the pond which is near the 1/2 way point. Instead of insisting that she pick it back up, I just scooped it up and carried it for her, and she walked without carrying anything on the way over. They had gotten tons of rain right before we went in - so a lot of the portage was underwater so she complained a bit, but eventually we got to the other side.
On the way back however - she was much more motivated by the prospect of a blizzard at Dairy Queen, and the girl single portaged her entire pack the entire way with no break! We had a lot of conversations where I was telling her stories about when she was a baby or funny things etc to take her mind of the portage.
A tree even fell down during the course of the week while we were on crab, and she just went right under it, stomped through water on the portage like a beast, and when I offered her help she said, "No thanks - I really just want to do it on my own." And she did. She did amazing.
