I slept in a cheap hammock last year and did enjoy it. Looking at the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro. How does this compare? Scale of 1 (el cheapo) to 10 (cadillac) how is this one? I didn't like how the sides caved in on the cheap one and would like one that the sides stay more open so I don't get claustrophobic. What other ones are good?

for the money, i think that looks like an ok unit. other hammock vendors, dutchware, warbonnett, ahe, to name a few offer gathered end hammocks, with bugnets that are well over $100.00.
my favorite is the dutchware chameleon. it has an attached bugnet, and i believe it runs about $125.00 or more, with accessory's.
good reviews on the skeeter beeter, and warranty, i think you would be fine with it.

I started hammocking with a SBP I got on woot for $16. It works fine and even though I now sew custom hammocks, it still gets used. A few notes:

-The included suspension is terrible. Heavy ropes you are supposed to tie several knots in for adjustment points. Get a decent suspension system.

-Personal preference, but I don't like the attached bugnet. It requires a zip to get in/out/reach down to adjust underquilt/etc. Also the net has its own shock cord 'ridge lines' to hold it up and it is prone to drooping down all in your business. To use it with a structural ridgeline, you have to punch holes in the net near the ends (does work well though). [All of the hammocks I make now have a seperate Fronky-style net].

-However, you can simply turn the entire hammock upside down to use it without the net in bug-free areas.

Here is my SPB being used to test my first homemade underquilt. I added a structural ridgeline, and just tied the netting loops together over the ridgeline.
