This pic is a grab from my GoPro from last summers trip. It was the beginning of the Craven to Ford portage. It was about 1500 meters long but probably the most enjoyable portage I have done. (yes, portages can be enjoyable) A flat scenic portage that highlighted all WCPP has to offer on a portage. Anyhow, going back through my pictures from this trip...... trying to get some motivation to write a trip report. Despite it just being a screen grab with some Topaz adjustments this one jumped out. Something about it that really brings me back to that morning.

Love seeing eagles. Wow the eye on that one looks like it's boring a hole through me - intense. I wish there were more around me. These are from a walk I did through the heart of the National part of Horicon Marsh last July in the early morning fog. There's an east/west road that cuts completely through it and I always see birds there that I never see anywhere else. I came across these Pelicans encamped along the walkway. I admit I strolled up on them closer than I really meant to. I am enthralled with these birds. A Naturalist at the park headquarters told that as little as ten years ago there were no pelicans and now their numbers in the park are growing. I got tons of pelican photos that morning. Must have been a group of 50+.

Beautiful dogs! I had one like that as a young man. It was a natural hunter and a joy to take out in the field.

Am sharing a yellow-headed blackbird. I hardly ever see these but found a couple of them this summer. Anyone else see them in marshes or around lakes?

I see yellow heads around my cabin in the spring time but there are not a lot of them around.

I live a short drive from Lake Wisconsin and last March hiked Gibraltar Rock which is near the lake. Dozens of vultures and hawks were soaring the thermals and winds that day.

was able to make a quick trip up to my old stomping grounds last weekend. of course i had to fit in as much as possible so buzzed up to high falls of the pigeon river before heading up the gunflint trail. wildlife spotted: 2 squirrels, eagles, hawks, 1 skinny grouse, 1 cow moose.
it is with some sorrow that i felt like a tourist rather than having that "coming home" feeling.
